Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It is renowned for its scenery and it climate. It has become one the of the most visited cities in the world and the gateway to the interior of the continent where thousands of people enjoy wildlife and diverse cultures.

But it is also known for nightlife and cuisine. The relative weakness of the South African rand when compared to the Euro and the dollar also make it an attractive destination for those who want to enjoy world class meals and down a tipple or two.

So where would one go to enjoy a cocktail of a beer with the locals in Cape Town? Here are some excellent choices.

1. Perseverance Tavern.

This pub has been around since 1808 when it was the favorite haven for mariners who hit shore on what is still known as the ‘Cape of Storms.’ It’s a no frills type of place that is Cape Town’s oldest pub and it retains that charm that used to characterize pubs in days past. No chain can imitate the ambiance of ‘Persies’ as it is affectionately known.

2.The Fireman’s Arms.

Another Cape Town institution. This is the place to watch sports as they have an active dstv installation. If you are a rugby fan then get their early to get a spot at the bar. Because it’ll get packed when South Africa takes to the field. This venerable pub is filled with good cheer and fun when the sport is on – and any other occasion as well.

3.The Forester’s Arms.

“Forries‘ is another place to take in the big match. Within a good place kick of Newlands – one of South Africa’s most beloved sporting venues those who choose to enjoy it’s hospitality will be drinking with sports supporters from across the world.

4. Lefty’s.

Slap bang in the middle of town one finds Lefty’s. A bar that has stood the test of time. It’s not only the drinks that are great 0- but if you do not try the waffles with bacon and fried chicken you will have missed out on one of the bar experiences of a lifetime. While it’s know as a bit of a ‘dive’ bar it is in a class of it’s own.

5. Power and Glory.

If you are into the creative crown then this is the bar for you. The after work crowd is hipster central. Ad and creative fold flock to this place. In keeping with their audience the management offers some great craft beers and an excellent selection of wine. Once again – if you ignore the menu, including the famous hot dogs that are on offer than you are missing out. That mahogany bar is just incredible as well.

6. House of Machines.

Stay in the city and get down with your rock and roll spirit at this pub. Coffee shop by day this venue takes it’s short off and gets it’s blue suede shoes on at night.

7. Cabrito.

Downstairs from one of Cape Town’s most popular Mexican eateries, El Burro is this cozy bar. It is where locals gather to enjoy a huge variety of craft beers – and no surprise the best selection of tequila in the town. It get’s so packed that the crowd is forced onto the pavement outside – but it’s no problem – everyone is enjoying the vibe.

Cape Town is a place where you can really let your hair down. Fold are friendly, the beer is cold and the cocktail are inventive. Get yourself there and enjoy the time of your life in the Mother City.

Mzansi is a great first pick because it is ranked #1 and represents Cape Town well, serving up some of the best African cuisine. Located at 45 Harlem Avenue in Cape Town Central, Mzansi serves up great dishes buffet style. Other menu favorites include malva pudding and beef stew. Reviews say that you are going to enjoy a truly authentic experience, and people point to the fact that you get to enjoy some great music while dining, too.

We’ve taken a good look at one of the best restaurants in Cape Town. Up next is a restaurant that serves up the best French and European cuisine. La Colombe is the name of the dining establishment, and it is located in Constantia on Main Road at the Silvermist Wine Estate. La Colombe is listed as the #2 restaurant for people dining out in the capital city. La Colombe is is known for its superb tasting menu and some much more.

Talk about some interesting menu favorites, right? You’re certainly going to enjoy a unique meal if you stop by Miller’s Thumb in Cape Town Central. The pecan chocolate pie with a scoop of ice cream is a great dessert suggestion that I noticed in the reviews, too.

If you’re wanting to know the name of a place in Cape Town that serves up the best Indian cuisine, you might want to check out Thali. Thali is located at 3 Park Road, and it is known for its fish tacos, fried spinach, lamb vindaloo and more. People say that the restaurant is authentic and also very modern. There are plenty of vegetarian options that are on the menu, too. You don’t order anything because they will bring food to your table, and you just pick out what you want.

 

That last place sounds like a really unique dining experience. What a way to order, right? The last featured restaurant is Stardust, and its location is 118 Sir Lowry Road in Cape Town Central. Expect a fun evening and fantastic entertainment with singing and dancing according to reviews. Lamb tagine and steak are two of the foods that make the menu highlights. If you’re up for dinner and a show at the same time, Stardust would make for a wonderful stop.

Leaving The Mother City – Falling Out Of Love

Cape is a beautiful place. There can be be no argument about that. The setting is spectacular, the sunsets and beaches take one’s breath away. It has been called one of the most attractive cities in the world.

But people do leave, they seek greener pastures, they become disillusioned or they want to grow themselves as a person – be it for financial reasons or or personal ones. It is not a betrayal of their roots in the Mother City – it is simply part of a personal evolution.

But when they look back they will realize that Cape Town is part of their soul and they will miss it’s special touch on their lives.

So what will they miss? here is a short list of what makes that city so special.

1. Nature.

Cape Town is one of the most biologically diverse environments in the world. The flora alone has been recognized by UNESCO. The region is made part of the ‘World Heritage List’ in 2004. The ‘Cape Floral Region’ has unique species that are simply not found anywhere else in the world. To walk the slopes of Table Mountain is to experience a world of beauty and color that cannot be found elsewhere.

2. The Mountain.

Overlooking the bay is that iconic mountain. It may look over the city bowl – and many people believe its ever present signature is a gloomy shadow on the city itself. But is is part and parcel of Cape Town and when those clouds pour across its top and down its slopes it makes the hearts of those who call the city home sing. It makes Cape Town unique.

3. The Wind.

The South Easter. The ‘Cape Doctor‘. When it blows and gets going you had better hold on to your hat and any other loose objects. Wind speeds up around 160km an hour are common. Small children and matrons latch on to lamp posts and cling on the dear life. But it’s part of life in Cape Town and people grin as the cars shake on their shock absorbers. It’s called ‘The Cape Doctor’ because it blows all the smoke and smog out into the ocean and cleans up the city.

4. Those Beaches.

If you see an image of Cape Town you will more often than not see those beautiful beeches lapped by sparkling water. But every Capetonian has laughed at people running into the water on the Atlantic side of the peninsula. To say that the waters on that side of the Cape are cold is to provide massive understatement. They are freezing. Stay on the pristine sands – and watch the beautiful people from across across the globe. But – there’s also an alternative – across the peninsula there are are some other wonderful beaches – not an hour away from the city center. There the warm Indian Ocean laps the shore of some magnificent beaches.

5. The Setting Sun.

Mother nature has provided a light show in Cape Town that cannot be beaten. Each night the sunset can take your breath away. Sit yourself down and enjoy a cocktail on the Atlantic Seaboard and you will see a show that takes your breath away.

6. The Smell of the Ocean.

Ozone, seaweed and salt. Call it what you will, there’s a special smell to Cape Town. Take a walk on the promenade and you will feel your batteries recharge.

So why do people leave Cape Town? Many reasons – but they will always miss it. There’s a Cape hole in your soul that will never be filled once you leave. And you’ll be back.
